Erica Mei Gamble is a producer (prev.: A+E, Sarica, Dungeon Mother), DJ (Discdog), and video archivist (temporaryCorrespondence) of electronic, experimental, and dance music. As temp., she has created several compositions using sequenced loops and samples characteristic of her minimal approach to production. Her inspiration to produce comes from her friends and partners—past and present—in and around Chicago’s underground experimental music community. Taking Notes is her first album.
Prior to Taking notes, my recordings were scattered around SoundCloud, in compilations on Bandcamp, and videos on YouTube. When Jordan asked if I would send him a few tracks for a physical release on ADR, I compiled and completed several projects I had been piecing together between 2018 – 21. "The new is the old in distress" comes from a piece I started performing live in 2018 and decided to record for Taking notes. Between 2018 – 20, I recorded "Trying to climb ft. Emme Williams," "Rack of cries," and "Evening;" although previously released separately, they belong with this album. The first five tracks are new pieces created for this release while becoming more familiar with the process of recording. "What's beyond?" features Sarah Leitten, my partner in Dungeon Mother; it is a tribute to that project and to our coven. Taking notes is a document of my solo experiments in electronic music as temp. Thank you, listener.

I like this album, especially for the message that it brings that is really powerful and in line with what happened nowadays. The title and the whole album refers to the Black Lives Matter (red summer refers to the summer of 1919 where white supremacists committed a lot of homicide against black community in USA). The whole album speaks about this, with a lot of reference to historical events (e.g.: 20th August 1619 is the date when the first black slaves were deported in USA). losfastidios
